Documentário: The Tube (1984)

Noire - He's My Baby

Letra
He's my baby, ain't it something
I'm a mess all for you
Walking home just to hear you say
Hey, baby, how's your day?

Don't go changing, I will believe in you
Don't know if you'd stay, it's all good if you do

He's my baby, it's what I get romance is a nonsense bid
Pull me to the couch, put on ry cooder so we could sing the blues
I've been thinking there's a lot of lonely people in this town, yeah

Don't go changing, I will believe in you
Don't know if you'd stay, it's all good you do

He's my baby, June is fadin', September's fadin' too
What's the price you pay, an hour wasted on you

Don't go changing, I will believe in you
Don't know if you'd stay, it's all good if you do

He's my baby, ain't it something

A estética visual é fortemente inspirada no cinema, especificamente no filme Coffee and Cigarettes de Jim Jarmusch.

The Psychedelic Furs - Angels Don't Cry

I try to remember a kiss
And I only get sorrow
And yesterday's faded away
Now there's only tomorrow

And everything passes and changes
And comes to an end I know
But nothing is written but old news
Again and again

I know that it's true
There's too many tears
But angels don't cry

Now I see a face in your eyes
But you don't remember my name
We're always a step out of time
Now ain't that a shame

And you've been alone for too long
And nobody cries
If you want to see all of my tears
Take a look in your eyes

I know that it's true
Believe it or not
But angels don't cry

I know that it's true
There's too many tears
But angels don't cry

I could walk away
Or I could walk on by
Or make it all come true
Or say it's all a lie

There's no more tears
When you're out of time
And I might fade away tonight
If you close your eyes

I know that it's true
Believe it or not
But angels don't cry

I know that it's true
There's too many tears
But angels don't cry

I could walk away
I could walk on by
Or make it all come true
Or say it's all a lie

Anna von Hausswolff - The Whole Woman (ft. Iggy Pop)

Melhor som aqui
Letra
Listen to me
I'm stronger than I seem
'Cause I've been through this huge emotion
Now I'm not afraid to go down
To the harbor
And to see you once again
I'll tell you the whole truth
And you will see me as the woman I am

I cannot escape
The mistakes that you've made
But I know it in my heart
And I knew it from the start

When I see you, I lose my faith
I lose my time, I lose my days
The reality is far away
When you say my name

I want you to be here
I want to see you, I want you near
I wanna touch you, smell your hair
Feel your lips everywhere

Somewhere in the dawn
I have hopes to see your face
But you're stuck inside a lie
I hope you'll carry my name

Oh, the ocean in our hearts
Will it bring us more apart?
If I tell you who I am
Will you love me as the woman I am?

The story in the sand (of who I am)
Protected by your hand (of who I am)
The dream wash over thee
And unleash your seeds on me

Iconoclastia, resiliência e diálogo geracional em "The Whole Woman"

David Bowie’s unlikely love for Frank Auerbach

In true avant-garde rock tradition, David Bowie had gone to art school before becoming the Starman who took over the airwaves. His love of art is well-established and primarily evident in his ever-changing aesthetic, which saw him blend the visual world with the sonic. Outside of his prolific music career, he collected and produced art, developing a fascination with outsider artists that often touched his sound.

In 1998, he admitted that art gave him a sense of stability, saying: “Art was, seriously, the only thing I’d ever wanted to own.” It had immense power over him, dictating his morning mood and nourishing his soul. “The same work can change me in different ways, depending on what I’m going through,” he told the New York Times.

“For instance, somebody I like very much indeed is Frank Auerbach,” he continued. “I think there are some mornings that if we hit each other a certain way – myself and a portrait by Auerbach – the work can magnify the kind of depression I’m going through.”

Auerbach’s work is often said to have this effect on viewers, compared to Lucian Freud – who Bowie noted didn’t live up to his reputation as the “greatest” contemporary painter – and Francis Bacon. His portraits are expressionist, the paint laid on so thick his subjects are barely recognisable as faces.

That ambiguity and frenzied painting style gave “spiritual weight” to Bowie’s angst. “Some mornings, I’ll look at it and go: ‘Oh, God, yeah! I know!’ But that same painting, on a different day, can produce in me an incredible feeling of the triumph of trying to express myself as an artist. I can look at it and say: ‘My God, yeah! I want to sound like that looks.'”

To that end, Bowie discussed his part in the glam rock generation, who famously didn’t see a divide between audio and visual art, joking that in the mid-60s, there was a running joke that if you wanted to become a skilled rhythm and blues player, you went to art school. “You know, 25 years ago, there were a whole crop of us that tried to drag all the arts together and create this potpourri, a kind of new essence for English music,” he mused.

He recalled conversations at art school and how the avante-garde artists always dominated discussion. For his part, he was drawn to Expressionists and remembered “an awful lot of Dada” popping up too. The love of boundary-pushing art followed him into his music career. However, he never considered the two as separate forces – it was that the passionate response art stirred in him was something to be continued in his music.

“I always want a certain abstraction,” he explained. “Art should be open enough for me to develop my own dialogue with it.”

Significado da Canção

Promo video for Nico’s “Evening of Light” directed by François De Menil in 1969, but probably finished much later. There was a tantalizingly brief clip of this in the Nico: Icon documentary. Not the album version of the song appearing on The Marble Index, this alternate take was released as part of The Frozen Borderline: 1968–1970 compilation in 2007.

The story is told in Richard Witts’ (fantastic) Nico biography, Nico: The Life and Lies of an Icon, that De Menil, heir to the Schlumberger Limited oil-equipment fortune via his mother’s family, who knew Nico via Warhol associate Fred Hughes, had become besotted by the Teutonic ice queen and proposed making a film with her.

At this time Nico was having a brief affair with a 21-year-old Iggy Pop, who she had met through John Cale, then producing the first Stooges album in New York. (Iggy once revealed to a French interviewer that Nico taught him how to “eat pussy.”). Nico told De Menil that he had to follow them to Ann Arbor, Michigan if he wanted to do it. De Menil obliged, shooting the film behind the house where the band lived.

Música do BioTerra: Iggy Pop - “Lust For Life”

Here comes Johnny Yen again
With the liquor and drugs
And the flesh machine
He's gonna do another strip tease.
Hey man, where'd ya get that lotion?
I've been hurting since I've bought the gimmick
about something called love
Yeah, something called love.
Well, that's like hypnotizing chickens.

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in the ear before.
I have a lust for life
'Cause of a lust for life.

I'm worth a million in prizes
With my torture film
Drive a GTO
Wear a uniform
all on a government loan.
I'm worth a million in prizes
Yeah, I'm through with sleeping on the sidewalk
No more beating my brains
With liquor and drugs

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in my ear before
Well, I've a lust for life (lust for life)
'Cause of a lust for life (lust for life, oooo)
I got a lust for life (oooo)
Got a lust for life (oooo)

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in my ear before
Well, I've a lust for life
'Cause I've a lust for life.

Here comes Johnny Yen again
With the liquor and drugs
And the flesh machine
He's gonna do another strip tease
Hey man, where'd ya get that lotion?
Your skin starts itching once you buy the gimmick
about something called love
Love, love, love
Well, that's like hypnotizing chickens.

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in the ear before
And I've a lust for life (lust for life)
'Cause I've a lust for life (lust for life)
Got a lust for life
Yeah, a lust for life
I got a lust for life
A lust for life
Got a lust for life
Yeah a lust for life
I got a lust for life
Lust for life

Música do BioTerra: Catherine Graindorge feat. Iggy Pop - The Dictator

When I was a little boy I remember the smiling head of Ike
and everything was gonna be alright
And I can remember the hysterical speaker at the patriotic boys assembly
And I remember the bloody head, handsome and dead of the president
I remember the beatings ...

And I remember the sneering.... the sneering...
The big dictator, he is coming soon.
He has magic to, turn a day to night.

He has instinct to, crush the weak with might.
He conjures Elvis who was the people's king.
He conjures Hitler now, fear is everything.

And I'm sad, so sad... I'm sad, so sad...
He will be your voice.
His duty is to himself.
Domination, clean and simple.

The big dictator, he is coming soon...
He is strong and huge.
The big dictator, he will break on through...

And I'm sad... so sad...
He will be your voice
I'm sad...

His duty is to himself
So sad

Domination
So sad

Clean and simple
Domination, domination, domination...
Clean it up.

Documentário- David Bowie and the Story of Ziggy Stardust

Mas ainda não era quase nada comparado ao que Bowie aprontaria para o álbum seguinte, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972).

O excitante documentário David Bowie & the Story of Ziggy Stardust (2012) radiografa a concepção, execução e os desdobramentos desse feito sociocultural.
