Descreve como o movimento do decrescimento pretende sair da sociedade de consumo.Existe um mundo presente, o mundo do desejo, do "ter", do "sempre mais", caracterizado pela ausência de limites ao crescimento econômico. Um mundo que está atualmente em colapso devido ao declínio dos recursos energéticos, das matérias-primas e à crise ambiental. E existe um mundo que já está chegando, o mundo do "ser", onde os chamados objetores de crescimento estão reinventando seu modo de vida, adaptando-o aos limites da biosfera e às reais necessidades dos seres humanos.
